A Guide for Newcomers
For several months during 2003-04, recent immigrant women and researchers met at the Community Health Centre Women's Health in Women's Hands, in Toronto. Together, in a participatory action research project, they created this Guide to help those planning to immigrate to Canada and those who recently arrived in Ontario.
The Guide’s content is meant to inform newcomers who are landed immigrants or those who have applied for Canadian permanent resident status. There are sections that are specific for women, but most of the Guide was written having both sexes and the entire family in mind. Most of the information was gathered in the context of the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario.
This Guide was first launched in 2005 and later was updated in the fall of 2010.
